Antibodies, also called immunoglobulins, are specialized proteins that travel through the bloodstream and are found in bodily fluids. They are used by the immune system to identify and defend against foreign intruders to the body, including any substance or organism that evokes an immune response. Antibodies are glycoproteins belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. The terms antibody and immunoglobulin are often used interchangeably, though the term ‘antibody’ is sometimes reserved for the secreted, soluble form, i.e. excluding B-cell receptors
